As a high school athlete, Desta Marika was drawn to the heat and intensity of Baptiste yoga. All it took was one sweaty class and she was hooked. After ten years of practice, Desta dove into teacher training, completing the Baptiste Institute’s 200-hour Live Your Yoga Training, as well as Level One, Level Two, Level Three, Art of Assisting, and Advanced Art of Assisting Programs. Desta’s education has been shaped and supported by many masterful teachers including Bethany Lyons, Brandon Compagnone, Samuel Robinson, and Elizabeth Huntsman DeAngelis.

Since 2015, Desta has been teaching in studios and gyms throughout the Greater Boston area, including the flagship Baptiste studios in Cambridge and Brookline. She feels fortunate to call Gregor Singleton, Nick Dickinson, and Emily Shea her key mentors. Currently, Desta is progressing towards her Tier 1 certification with the Baptiste Institute and her 500 RYT through the Yoga Alliance.

Desta has a B.A. in Public Health, is a Registered Nurse, and has been teaching group fitness since 2013. Her dream is to meld her skills and experience in health with her love of movement to impart joy, ignite curiosity, and make radical transformation a possibility for all.
