Intro to Yin Workshops

  • 57 Phillips Street Boston, MA, 02114 United States (map)

Last Sunday of the month January - April:  2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Yin Yoga balances the more active, robust style of yoga with slower, longer-held poses that target the connective tissues in our bodies — the ligaments, tendons, fascia. The rewards of a yin class include relaxed muscles, freedom in the joints, and a serene state of mind.

Schedule:

Week 1 (1/28): Yin Vs. Yang – Intro to the practice of Yin highlighting the differences and focus on physical benefits (compliments an active workout, targets connective tissues etc.)
Week 2 (2/25): Yin Attitude – Cultivating patience, gratitude and contentment – focused on how to approach yin yoga through yielding effort and relaxing in the poses/shapes.
Week 3 (3/25): Awareness – staying present through yin poses, journey through the senses to find the present moment.
Week 4 (4/29): Intro to modern meridian theory – Intro to meridian lines.

 What to Bring:

Comfortable clothing, warmer layer (long sleeve and sock), water, no food necessary.

About the Instructor:

Pamela Newman earned her Bachelors of Science degree and Masters degree in Latin American and Iberian Studies at Vanderbilt University.  During her time at Vanderbilt, Pamela discovered a passion for yoga and wellness.  Pamela has been a student of yoga for over 10 years and she was inspired to teach after discovering the calming and meditative aspects of Yin and Restorative yoga.  As a compliment to the more well-known yang (Vinyasa) styles of yoga, Pamela found that Yin helped her to find balance in our busy, heavy and technology based culture.

As a teacher of Yin and Restorative classes, Pamela is able to guide her students to the softer side of yoga offering peace and stillness as a way to balance their busy lives. Pamela encourages her students to grow their physical, emotional and spiritual selves through their quiet strength.

In 2014, Pamela completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program through Boston Yoga School led by Ame Wren. Pamela has continued her education and training and has completed two advanced Power of Touch Mentorship training’s with Nicole Clark and Yin Yoga training with Josh Summers. Pamela recently completed a 100 hour training, Yoga for Emotional Health, with Soulful Yoga Therapy’s founder Kate Graham-LMHC/CYT-500.
